How to adjust cabinet hinges and cabinet drawers

Adjusting door hinges and drawer glides

Changing temperatures can occasionally affect the way your cabinetry doors and drawers close. Adjusting doors and drawers is a simple correction most homeowners can do.

The picture below helps to identify whether you have inset or overlay doors.

The difference between overlay cabinets and inset cabinets is illustrated in this photo.

  • Overlay cabinetry (shown on the left) has doors that "lay over" the top of the cabinet's face frame.
  • Inset cabinetry (shown at right) has doors that are "set into" the cabinet's face frame.
